How long did it take you to get over losing the World Cup final in 94?

Yeah but on one side, for sure you can be disappointed but on the other side, for the second time in a row France reached the final of the World Cup. This is a big, big achievement because this tournament is really difficult and Hugo won the World Cup. For sure for him, it was a great chance to win twice the World Cup and to do something extraordinary in his career.

But at the same time about Hugo, he showed also in this World Cup that he is a fantastic goalkeeper. He is the captain of France and I think this is a big achievement to reach the final. Then when you play the final, you want to win but everybody that played at an important level won and lost the finals.

If I told you the number of finals I lost, we stay here for one hour! You can win, you can lose but, I repeat, reaching the final was a big achievement for France. On the one side, we are a bit disappointed for Hugo but we are also happy for Cuti because for him it was the first time to become the World Cup champion.

How do you cope after the World Cup, better to have 12 there or not many like Brentford?

Yeah but in the one hand, you are happy because for my club, Tottenham, to have 12 players at the World Cup it means that we are on the right way to try to be competitive and to try in the future to win something. It is normal that when you have so many players play a tournament like this, especially during the season, that now it is not easy because the physical condition is not at the top.

It is impossible to give them a lot of rest and for sure with the players that didn’t play in the World Cup and we work for four weeks, now they are in great physical condition. We work a lot on the tactical aspect and physical aspects. Now they are at a level that is better than the players who finished the World Cup.

For this reason, I think I have two days to make the best decision for the game against Brentford. On one side I have players who I worked with for four weeks really well and on the other side, I have players who worked at World Cup and are not at the top at the moment. I have to make the best decision because it will be a really difficult game against Brentford.
