Chelsea’s Saturday afternoon loss to Southampton at Stamford Bridge, 1-0, was all too familiar a story.
Possession, opportunities, and optimism, but little evidence of their effectiveness. The struggling Saints managed to surprise Stamford Bridge by winning three points with a free kick from James Ward-Prowse near the end of the first half.
On Saturday, Chelsea made 17 tries, only five of which were successful, but the Blues were unable to beat Gavin Bazunu. Instead, the Saints won at the Bridge, giving Chelsea something they’ve practically become accustomed to.
